In the twelve months from March 2013 to March 2014, I programmed solutions to the problems posted on the Contest Coding blog run by Lewis Cornwall, solving 33 problems (out of 47) and achieving a position of 4 th on the leaderboard (out of 23). Made for Ludum Dare 33. The theme of the game jam was 'you are the monster'. I decided to make a sandbox style game where you run around as a small monster and destroy tall buildings made out of blocks. The player has no real goal. They are just free to play around with the physics and cause as much destruction as possible. The game was made using Unity 5.

Controls aren't the most intuitive but are as follows:

Project jumpius (ludum dare 33) mac os update

Magicolors mac os. wasd keys: Player movement.

Project jumpius (ludum dare 33) mac os update

Magicolors mac os. wasd keys: Player movement.

spacebar: Jump.

spacebar whilst holding o key: Super jump. (Used to traverse great height and distance! More affective if you run to build up momentum.)

i key: Punch. (Knocks blocks back with a destructive right swing!!!)

u key whilst off the ground: Dive. (Fly downwards with great speed and bring pain to those below!)

y key: Centers the camera behind the player. (The camera is generally horrible. Switchero mac os. I'm sorry.)

Additional notes:

If you fall off the edge of the map, you'll have to reset the game. Totally forgot to reset the player. My bad.

The audio is functional but definitely not pleasant. I'm sorry. Cupids arrow inc. difficult cases division (solitudedude) mac os. Collision sound was made using http://www.bfxr.net.

Here's the download link for the unity project in a zipped folder: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6pqe2c9M3VEYUZ1WkJ1MXRXSXc/view?usp=sharing

My code is uncommented nonsense. I'm sorry.

Think that's everything. Hope you enjoy knocking over cubes!

The final results are in for Ludum Dare 26, a game competition in which participants have 48 hours to program a game from scratch. As I previously wrote, I participated in Ludum Dare for the first time last month and learned an immense amount in an extremely short amount of time. Here are the ratings I received for Painter's Cat. The ratings were out of 5, and there were 1610 games submitted to the Compo category (which I participated in).

First of all… I'm in the Top 100 for Audio at #47? Holy crap. That's amazing. I'm pretty blown away by this – all of that time doing One Hour Compos has really paid off! I couldn't find where my overall ranking was, but it looks like I managed to place in the top 40%, which isn't bad for a first game.

Project Jumpius (ludum Dare 33) Mac Os Update

Ludum Dare was an amazing positive experience for me overall. I'm pretty excited for next time. There's still a lot for me to learn and this is one way to help me not only learn about software development and game development, but to also have fun doing it. We are rolling mac os.
